The Lucky Horseshoe Challenge (Day 1)
Time & Location
About the Event
The Lucky Horseshoe Challenge, in our new exclusive Venue at Horseheath Racecourse, Great Thurlow, Cambridge, CB21 4QP
This is limited to 40 People. We have 10 Virtual spaces available for each day for anyone who wants the run on the day for the medal but cannot get to the venue on the day. It's a six hour event, run as far as you can during the six hours and a little bit more if you're lucky, as long as you are leaving the Base Camp by 5:59:59 you get to run another lap, we have designed a 5.3k route which encompasses the grounds of Horseheath racecourse, 90% of the route is within the grounds and a small portion is on a rarely used public footpath. You can run as much or little as you want to, you can rest between laps if you like and take in the music at the aid station, all whilst socially distancing of course. You may be completing your first official 5k,10k, Half Marathon, Full Marathon or even ultra-Marathon, or it may be your 100th or 1000th, the location is pretty self-contained, making this an intimate event with us having exclusive use of the area. We have plenty of open space at the venue to ensure we can all stay socially distanced and space ourselves adequately, It's also ideal for those who want to try and achieve a Marathon distance and for those who also want the option to push a little further, possibly an ultra but without the complications of trail ultras, with next to no navigation, no kit required, an aid station every lap and straightforward logistics. Parking is also included and secure on site, we will have a parking attendant showing you where to park. He will also check your name and let you know when to come to the Race HQ/Base Camp This will be located at the start and Lap point where we will have our water/aid station, you will be able to pick up your race number and the Race director will call you in your coral of 5 or 6 people for the race briefing and to the start of the race. You will be able to leave your bags and extra kit you want to bring in your car as it will be close to the start/Lap point of the race. If you are being dropped off we can find somewhere safe for it to be during the race. Upon entry you will receive an email explaining the times and set up, if you are hoping to run with someone or possibly in a group, once you have entered, I suggest entering the event at the same time or please send me an email and I will do my best to organise it. We have designed a large Bespoke medal for the event, which you will get at the end of the race. The terrain will have slopes rather than hills, there is a small public footpath which is rarely used yet whilst its undulated, its primarily flat. Mainly pathway with a small undulated section, our suggestion is to wear road trainers.
What is a challeneg event ? its a timed event where you get the chance to complete your distance, without the pressure of having to complete it, but with the motivation of others pushing themsleves to go that little bit more
What do I get? You will receive 1) A really special finishers medal, custom made and designed. 2) A well stocked base camp with plenty of nibbles and refreshments for during and post race replenishment. Memebership to Zig Zag Runing
Where is the event? home of the horseheath Trials, as per the map above,
When do I get my race number? You'll pick this up on race day morning from the race HQ on the morning, please get there at your allocated time, teh first set off times will start from 9:00 am.
Are there time limits? Yes, we have a 6 hour time limit. You must at least be heading out on your last lap at the latest 6:59.59 on the timer.
Do you have secure baggage facilities No. But you're free to leave bags at the start/finish. There will always be someone around but we can't guarantee their security, in the event of rain we can't guarantee things won't get wet, we try as we will have a gazebo that any baggage can be left in, You will also be able to park close to the start/finish don't forget.
Can I leave my own drinks/food at the aid station? not at the moment, we are fortunate that we have lots of space for anyone who wants to sit and eat in their own area, we will have a water station available to refill your own cups
Trail shoes? Road Shoes? I'd suggest road shoes, whilst there is an element of grass and footpath, the majority of the course is made up of well kept path/track.
Is the course closed to the public? The majority of the course is closed to the public, although a small stretch is along a public footpath, whic is rarely used, along this point, runners do not have the right of way and need to be considerate of other users of the land. Please don't litter, we suggest bring reusable cups as we will be a cupless event, we'll have a bin at the base camp and another on the far side of the course so please deposit any rubbish in these..
What on course facilities do you provide? Water, at the moment we are restriced, ordinarily it would be squash, nibbles, goodies, if by October the Govt guidelines have changed and we are able to relax some of the rules in place, we will accomodate accordingly.
We will definatly still have an enthusiastic Race Director, a diligent timekeeper, some marshals music, dad dancing and encouragement every lap!
Please do not bring any glass onto the grounds, the course is regularly used by horses and no glass is allowed for obvious reasons
